  After hearing (some of and) about this work since , I'm happy to say that, after FINALLY purchasing and enjoying it, this album is a worthy successor to 's Learning To Crawl, and probably should've been the next album after it, cause Get Close really went in directions that didn't exactly sound in keeping with much of the template that The Pretenders had lain in the late s (and it /5(31).

  I previously had this on cassette so thought an inexpensive pre-owned CD would be worth a try. The CD was in good condition (as opposed to another Pretenders CD I ordered at the same time). "Packed" has some great and some good tracks with a few I could do without. Overall though it reminded me why I liked The Pretenders/5(29).

  It may be true that Chrissie Hynde's songs on Packed! are the weakest in her career, but they are not the sole reason why the album is such a bland, uninspiring affair. In the hands of producer Mitchell Froom, Hynde's stylistic retreads become even more unfocused and lackluster. Froom's production lacks any edge, making the pleasant but pedestrian songs bland and featureless.
